St. Patrick’s Day Activities for Preschool, PreK, and Kindergarten

Hey there friend! March is here and rainbows and shamrocks are all around, so you know I HAD to create something St. Patrick’s Day themed for the classroom! Hands-on learning is my jam and I love bringing anything holiday themed into my classroom (and yes, I even decorate my house for each holiday 😂) But there is nothing more satisfying to me than seeing my students SO excited to play with an activity I’ve put out for a center. Our students don’t get enough play in school, so anytime I can incorporate play, it seriously pumps me up! And the best part is that these hands-on St. Patrick’s Day Activities have play and learning all rolled into one!

These St. Patrick’s Day activities will help your kiddos practice letters, letter sounds, counting, one-to-one correspondence, fine motor and there’s even a few options to start practicing CVC words (if your students are ready for that). I try to create various options in my activities, so depending on where your students currently are developmentally, you can choose what is more appropriate for your class.

You may also want to take a visit to your local dollar tree (shopping trip!) to snag some of the fun materials to use with this packet. I was able to purchase my gold coins, little black pots, pom-poms, and glittery shamrocks from there. The mini erasers are from the Target Dollar Bin and you can grab the lucky charms from your local grocery store. The rainbow popsicle sticks I purchased at Michaels Craft Store, but check your dollar tree first. But you can always substitute the materials for items you already have.

Let’s take a sneak peek into the St. Patrick’s Day activities! 😍☘️

Fine Motor Do-a-Dot

Fine motor my friends! Our students cannot get enough of this! These Lakeshore tweezers are a staple in my room, I can’t recommend them enough, we use them all the time and they are still as good as new. This activity is highly engaging and really strengthens those little fingers!

Tip ✨ You’ll need some pom-poms for this activity, so stop at your local dollar store to grab some- you’ll get more bang for your buck there!

Rainbow Letters

Popsicle sticks are a great way for students to build letters and numbers, and it’s even better when they’re colored popsicle sticks! 🌈 🥳 This could be placed at an independent center or even at a teacher-led center. I recommend having students build the letter then say it’s name and sound to further solidify that letter recognition and letter-sound association.

Tip ✨ You’ll need to cut some popsicle sticks in half in order to build these rainbow letters. A pair of scissors will easily do the trick. ✂️

Leprechaun Roll, Add, and Cover

These roll, add, and cover mats are super easy to prep. Print and laminate and you’re good to go! All you’ll need is a pair of dice (I got these from Amazon) and some gold coins (Dollar Tree). The kids are DELIGHTED to do any activity with leprechaun gold, so this activity is an instant hit! Who know practicing basic addition could be so fun! 😄

Tip ✨ Try placing these mats on a craft tray to keep kiddos from rolling their dice off the table. 🎲

End of the Rainbow Sight Words

Sight word practice doesn’t have to be painful or drill based, it actually can be fun! This activity makes sight word practice much more hands-on and more engaging. Students pick a card and then build the word using the gold coins.

Tip ✨ Pre-teach this activity by singing and acting out these sight words. (I recommend using HeidiSongs). Have your students dance and sing prior to this activity and then have them sing those same songs while they build the words. 🎵

St. Patrick’s Day Number Puzzles

My students cannot get enough of these number puzzles! I love that this activity hits multiple learning skills. Students practice counting, number recognition, number sequencing, and problem-solving strategies. So much packed into one activity!

Tip ✨ I HIGHLY recommend after laminating and cutting these that you use a colored sharpie to make a little mark/dot on the back of each puzzle strip. I use different colored sharpie on each of my puzzles, so we can easily identify what pieces go with what puzzle. I also recommend placing these puzzles on a craft tray and then simply have students switch seats when they’re finished and ready to work on another puzzle. It prevents the puzzles from getting mixed up. 🧩
