Easy Christmas Activities for Kindergarten

The magical season of Christmas is upon us, and there’s no better way to celebrate the joy and wonder of this festive time than by engaging kindergarten students in a sleigh full of exciting activities.

From crafts to games, these Christmas-themed activities are sure to create lasting memories and spread the holiday cheer. Let’s unwrap the joy of learning with these delightful Christmas activities for kindergarten!

1. Start with a Christmas Story:

Settle kiddos down for a cozy Christmas story. Choose classic holiday tales or age-appropriate picture books that capture the spirit of Christmas. Some of my personal favorites are:

The Polar Express
How to Catch an Elf
Pete the Cat Saves Christmas
Snowman At Christmas
The Gingerbread Man
The Ninjabread Man
Here Comes Santa Cat
Don’t Shake the Present!

Each of these books are linked to Amazon, so just click and add to cart to kick off your classroom holiday celebration!

2. Decorate Classroom Stockings:

Set up a crafting station with plain stockings, glue, glitter, markers, and an assortment of festive decorations. Allow kiddos to be creative and decorate their own Christmas stockings. This not only enhances fine motor skills but it’s also an easy way to decorate the classroom walls and bulletin boards. You could even slip some student Christmas gifts in the stockings before they take them home!

Grab these stockings at Walmart for .98 cents!

3. Gingerbread House Decorating:

Transform the classroom into a gingerbread wonderland with a decorating station or even teacher run center. Use graham crackers, icing, and an assortment of colorful candies for the kids to create their own edible masterpieces.

Tip: Try using old milk cartons for the “house.” Start early by collecting them from the school cafeteria. Wash them out, let them dry, and hot glue graham crackers to the sides of the milk carton. You’ll also want to hot glue the carton to the bottom of a paper plate.

4. Christmas Movement Cards

Put a Christmas twist on the classic game of “Simon Says” with these Christmas movement cards! Give simple instructions like, “prance like a reindeer” or “march like a nutcracker.” This activity not only promotes listening skills but also gets the kids up and moving, burning off some of that holiday excitement!

5. Snowman Craft:

Get hands-on with a snowman craft activity! Provide blue construction paper, cotton balls, colored paper, and crayons and markers. Kiddos can build their own snowmen, practicing their fine motor and expressing their creativity as they create these adorable winter characters.

6. Classroom Elf on the Shelf:

While traditionally a home-based tradition, educators are now discovering the powerful impact the Elf on the Shelf can have on creating a positive and engaging classroom environment.

The Elf on the Shelf can serve as a whimsical and positive reinforcement tool in the classroom, encouraging students to exhibit positive behavior and stay on task. A few strategies to make the most of the elf’s magic are elf rewards systems, behavior challenges, and even personalized elf notes!

7. Santa’s Workshop Dramatic Play:

Set up a dramatic play area as Santa’s Workshop/Giftwrapping station! Provide students with scissors, glue, ribbon, wrapping paper, and cardboard boxes of various sizes. Let them take on roles like Santa, elves, and toy makers, fostering imaginative play and teamwork!

“Wrapping Up”

As your students engage in these Christmas-themed adventures, they’ll not only create cherished memories but also carry the warmth of the season in their hearts for years to come.
