Gingerbread Man Activities for Preschool
Run, run, as fast as you can! The Gingerbread Man story is a classic to read during the holiday season. It’s so fun to read all the different versions to your class and then compare and contrast the similarities and differences. There are some fantastic youtube videos to watch as well- one of my personal favorite being Jack Hartmann’s “The Gingerbread Man: Story Song” or “The Gingerbread Cookie Dance” by Danny Go! It’s also a blast to do a gingerbread man hunt around the school or bring in some gingerbread cookies in for you students to taste and sample. The opportunities are endless! Let’s check out these Gingerbread Man Activities for Preschool to see even more ways you can include holiday fun in your classroom!
These Gingerbread Man Activities for Preschool are a fabulous way to get your students excited and engaged in the holiday season and expand on the Gingerbread Man story. They include decorating a gingerbread house, using buttons and gumdrops as manipulatives, and even playing with gingerbread scented play dough! (find the recipe here).
Gingerbread Man Letter Building
Bring some festive fun into the classroom by using gumdrops as a manipulative to build letters! These mats have the option of large or half sheet- so you can use large or mini gumdrops.
Tip ✨ Try this activity at a teacher led table, and then allow students to enjoy the gumdrops as a snack afterwards! 😋
Gingerbread Gumdrop Patterns
Make patterning practice FUN with these pom-pom gumdrop patterns! Students use tweezers and pom-poms to make the various gumdrop patterns on the gingerbread house. 🏠
Tip ✨ These plastic blue tweezers are a MUST in your preschool classroom! You can find them at Lakeshore Learning. 🙌
Gingerbread Man Play Dough Mats
Using play dough to build shapes is one of my FAVORITE way for kiddos to practice shape recognition and strengthen their fine motor skills. You can also bring in the holiday spirit by using gingerbread scented play dough!
Tip ✨ The ingredients for a no cook play dough recipe is:
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup table salt
- 1 Tablespoon ground ginger
- 2 Tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup warm water

Gingerbread Alphabet Puzzles
Puzzles are SOOOO good for preschoolers! They have students practice problem solving, hand-eye coordination, spacial awareness, and sequencing. These puzzles also have students practice alphabet recognition and letter matching!
Tip ✨ Matching the gumdrop letters may be tricky for some students; scaffold this activity by having students choose the gingerbread house first then pick the correct gumdrops to complete the puzzle.
