Mother’s Day Bookmark
Mother’s Day Bookmarks
Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and my teammate and I decided to make our student’s Mother’s Day gift a week early this year, which turned out to be really helpful (imagine that, planning ahead works!) Last year we did a very elaborate craft, which was just too much, especially since we we were trying to get ready for Open House at the same time. So this year we went with something simple, but still very sweet and sentimental. A bookmark using the kiddos thumbprint and finger prints to make the flower!
I made the template then used tempera paint for the kids fingerprints. However, there is a secret to making these bookmarks, USE THE VERY TIPS OF THE KIDDOS FINGERS ONLY. I tried to do one using the entire student’s finger and it did not turn out very well lol. When you use their fingertips it makes the flower much more dainty and delicate. We had the students use their thumb for the center of the flower, then used their two index fingers for the petals. We used a green fine point sharpie for the stem of the flower and then we used the kiddos fingers to make the leaves.
I suggest leaving some space when you cut the bookmarks. That way it leaves room for you to move the bookmark around without smudging the paint and you can write the student’s name on the side
After the paint dries, cut out the extra space around the bookmark, and glue onto colored construction paper. Don’t forget to write the student’s name on the back of the bookmark! (I’ve done that more times than I can count!)
Finally, laminate, cut out, and hole punch the top. Then tie a little ribbon on top. Voila! Perfect little Mother’s Day gift!
