My New Secret Obsession
Moana.
Ok, I know I may be behind the times, but I finally watched it. My kids were BEGGING me to so we could all chat about it during recess lol.
So I asked my husband, “Are we doing anything this weekend? Good, because our plans are now to rent Moana and watch it, my kids keep asking me to watch it and I promised them I would.”
So we went down to Red Box and rented it for the night.
And now I’m obsessed.
I’m singing the songs ALL THE TIME, playing them in the classroom, watching clips of the movie on lunch breaks. I think I have a problem. And I have no children at home, so that really makes it look bad for me.
But in my defense…
The songs are BRILLIANT. The plot is very unique, especially for Disney. (Spoiler Alert: There is NO love story for once!) And the characters and story are based on actual events that happened in Polynesian history. HISTORICAL FICTION, PEOPLE! The Polynesians were brilliant. Super smart navigators that somehow figured out there were islands THOUSANDS of miles out in the middle of the ocean.
My husband is also comes from Polynesian descent, so I actually paused it in the middle of the movie and asked him, “Don’t you feel so cool that these people were your ANCESTORS? God, I’m so jealous of you right now.”
The song, “You’re Welcome,” is on another level. Once it gets stuck in your head, it’s all over. One of my students asked me yesterday “Why do you keep singing that song Mrs. Barker?!”
“BECAUSE IT’S AMAZING, THAT’S WHY!”
Moana is the COOLEST chick I know. I’m seriously considering being her for Halloween. I can be a blonde hair, blue-eyed Moana, right?
Seriously though, if you haven’t watched it, do yourself a favor, RUN, don’t walk, to the nearest Red Box and rent it. Or better yet, just buy it. That’s what I’m about to go do.
You can thank me in the comments below after you watch it.
Later Gators!
